I'm a man who 'knows how to get things done', and too many times, "done my way"! Too often though, it gets portrayed as;
There are only two ways to do things;
My way, and
The wrong way.
Most assuredly though, I struggle with the topic of today's devotional because we are admonished to relax and LET Him lead us, to LET Him guide us, to LET Him direct our steps. Psalms 32:8 (KJV), reads; “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.” Wait! I have plans for the day; things to do, places to be, tasks and obligations that must be handled. As an organizer and as a responsible adult, I really feel as though it is a requirement to 'be prepared', to have a strategy, to at least have some form of plan for the day. The delicate balance between being responsible and being attentive to the Lord is a dilemma not many people are not willing to experience (too complicated, too intense, and even too anal). Now, it is NOT necessary for you to sit around the house and wait for some divine message, some spiritual awakening, or even just some 'sign from the Lord' as to what your plans and activities will actually be for the day. Rather, put your life into action (practically), yet remain sensitive and aware that changes in your plans 'could' be possible. And when they are, the Lord Himself will be leading you through it. The key is, be ready and willing to be led of the Lord. Psalms 119:35 even states; “Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.” Practically, how do we do this? In your day, how do you begin to Let Go and Let God in the plans of your life, yet remain responsible, accountable, and even just simply productive in your life? Please read my "Dead Weight" story to get an idea as to how the Lord can and does lead us. But essentially it begins with a constant communion with Him, a regular and frequent 'check to be sure' call to the Lord throughout your day, even to 'still your heart' and hear that 'ever small voice' of His. Over time, your readiness and alertness to His leading will be second nature and become much more fluid. But, as the scripture above noted, do it with delight, with anticipation, and with a joyful heart. Psalms 143:8 (KJV), helps give you a better idea, “Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.” You may not have adequate time in the morning, but don't miss the point here to at least 'make' time for Him and He will direct your steps.
